3/18/2016 Update
With the great weather recently the progress of the new CSHS has picked back up. Here are a few pics: -The brick facing continues to go up around the school. This is a pic of the outside entrance to the auxiliary gym and locker room area. -The beams above the stage have been installed in the auditorium. -These are the pieces to the trusses that will be assembled and installed in the auditorium. -The red faced block that you will find in both the student and the event entrances. This particular spot is for one of the two elevators in the new building. -This is the second floor chemistry room. The door opening on the left goes out in the hall. The one on the right with the window is the storage area. -The concrete has been poured on the first floor....the framing will be following close behind. -Concrete has also been poured in the locker room area. 2/9/2016 Update Here is a quick look into some of the work at Canton South. - Steel trusses are up in the aux gym - The walking track is up in the Red Ash Gym. - There is roof decking up over the locker room, sports med, weight room and wrestling room. - This is a picture of the added-on wrestling/multi purpose room area. It will be approx 3,500 sq ft. - Exterior sheeting is going up around area A. Once this is up there will be a building wrap added and then the walls will be ready for brick once the weather breaks. -Crews have begun digging the storm sewer that will go around the building. 1/29/16 Update Work that was accomplished this week: - An overhead shot from a drone....courtesy of Chris Bergert/CS Graphic Arts Department. - A pic of the roof decking from the roof of the old HS. Most of the decking is complete in the academic area. They will then move down to the athletic end and start there. - A look from inside.... out the second floor windows and of the roof decking that has been put down. - The northwest corner of the building is framed in. - This structural steal is up in Area D (the athletic wing). This space will have locker rooms, weight room, wrestling room and the Sports Med. classroom. 1/22/16 Update There is still work happening at the corner of Faircrest and 800.... -The roof trusses in the Red Ash Gym are complete. From the floor to the bottom of the truss it is 29"4" in the entire gym. The current Red Ash Gym that has a vaulted ceiling the max height at the peak is 30' 6" and 18' 8" on the sides. The new Red Ash Gym it is 29' 4" the entire space. -The metal stud walls are going up. In the middle of this picture you can see a window framed in. This will start to give you an idea of the window sizes and the amount of natural light they will let in. -The steps in the academic area are in and functional. -Under the white snow the crew has started to put the metal roof deck down. This will not be the finished roof. Insulation, fiberboard and the finish layer of .45 mil Thermoplastic vinyl membrane with battens (basically that means it will look like a metal roof) will be added in the spring once the weather is continually over 40 degrees. 12/16/2015 Update -First roof trusses for the new building along with the steel that will support the walking track. 12/4/2015 Update December 4th approx. 79,000 blocks have been laid in the construction of our new school. 11/17/15 Update There are many exciting things happening this month in the construction of the new Canton South. -Steel is being set in the north end of the building. This is the academic wing and is starting to give you an idea of the shape of the building. -The cement floor for the small gym was poured yesterday. The plan is to continue into the Red Ash Gym next and pour the floor in there hopefully at the end of this week. Currently the masons are working to finish the last wall (closest to 800) of the Red Ash Gym. -Masons have also been laying block this month for the auditorium. -If you look at the small gym (all the way to the south) you will see that they have also started to lay the brick facing. This starts to give you an idea of what the exterior of the building will look like. -The wrestling room alternate was added to the building and the foundation for that has been added. This area in down in the athletic end next to the weight room.
